Hometree members commit to making regular contributions, and this support will be directed towards the purchase, conservation, and rehabilitation of degraded habitats. In the coming years, we will return hundreds of acres into optimum ecological conditions. Your support is the key to unlocking this potential.

Insight

Working with expert ecologists and experienced conservationists, we will purchase and rehabilitate strategically significant pieces of land. See our commitment to ecological integrity here.

  • Rewet degraded peatland and secure its leaking carbon.

  • Restore damaged meadows ensuring they once again provide habitat and forage for pollinators

  • Convert monoculture commercial woodlands into mixed forests full of mammals and birds.

  • Purchase sites that have been abandoned and allow the processes of rewilding to continue.

  • See case studies and future projects here  (link to Illaun, Ballyvaskin, Moy Hill)

The sites will be owned by the trust which governs the hometree charity and will be held in perpetuity for the benefit of all in society.

Why it's important and what you get back

We are amid unprecedented environmental decline. Intact ecosystems that are critical to all life on earth are disappearing in front of our eyes. Native woodlands, to take just one example to occupy less than two per cent of their previous range.  Traditional conservation has had some fantastic successes but has not managed to reverse the trajectory of the decline. Nature needs more than conservation; it needs ambitious reinstatement. We commit ourselves to this work.

When you sign up, we will bring you into the heart of Hometrees projects. We want you onsite, not just to observe but to help. Hometree subscribers will be invited to regular in-person events ( site visits, tree planting, habitat conservation, seeds collections, talks, tours).  There will be periodic special guest educational events where subscribers can attend discussions and engage with leaders in conservation and restoration. For those who live outside Ireland or when we cannot travel, we will bring our work to you in rich digital communications. We want you to be on the journey, every step of the way.

Restoration Membership

Member as opposed to a one-off donation

One-off payments are incredibly helpful and have so far contributed to Hometree planting tens of thousands of native trees and we are so grateful for every one. However, there is a lot of value in a recurring income stream. It’s a base to build effectively on and allows us to plan strategically into the future. The job at hand is enormous and we want to approach it with a sound fiscal underpinning.

The fact that subscriptions are rolling allows us to compound the impact of our work. In return for this support, we promise to leave the world an exponentially better place than we found it and you and your employees into the heart of Hometrees land rejuvenation adventure.

At Hometree, we fundamentally acknowledge that the concept of returning land to nature presents profound challenges for rural communities. We will at all times engage proactively in ensuring our projects are not just accepted but welcomed by the communities they rest within.
